Can I buy a car on this site?
No. CleanTheVin is a research archive, not a marketplace. Nothing here is for sale and no bidding takes place on this site. It records vehicles from car auctions for statistics and price analysis.
Where does the data come from?
Public salvage and used-car auctions. Each vehicle is recorded with its details and photos and, once its auction has ended, the real final sale price.
How are the VINs verified?
Auction sites usually mask part of the VIN. Here each VIN is recovered and accepted only after independent checks agree on every character and the VIN's built-in check digit passes. If a VIN cannot be verified to that standard, the vehicle is not recorded.
What do the prices mean?
Every price is shown in both US dollars and euros, converted daily. Depending on the vehicle you may see the valuation (what the insurer or seller considers it worth), the current or buy-now price, and, once the auction has ended, the real final sale price.
How often is the archive updated?
Continuously. New listings are picked up throughout the day, and records are kept after auctions end, so each VIN's full history builds up over time.
I found a car I own or sold. Can you remove it?
Yes. Use the 'Remove this' button on the vehicle's page, or contact us, and we will take care of it.
